Sulfuric Acid is a powerful protonating and moderately strong oxidizing agent. These characteristics have a profound impact on the different materials that a pump is made of.
Material selection is key as the corrosive properties of sulphuric acid change quite dramatically depending upon its concentration and temperature. Low concentrations can be resisted by a range of pump materials whereas medium concentrations require plastics such as PVDF and ETFE. When the concentrations get above 95% some stainless steels can be used once again.
AxFlow UK offers a wide range of chemically resistant pump types suitable for pumping sulphuric acid including 904 stainless steel which was specificially developed for use with stainless steel.
