Wittig Rotary Vane Compressors and Vacuum Pumps

What makes Wittig special 

The story of Wittig dates back to 1908 when Karl Wittig obtained the patent for the vane compressor. The technology used by Wittig today is not a new innovation but has been refined for more than 100 years. The factory remains at its original location in Schopfheim, Germany. 

Today, Wittig's product range mainly consists of vane compressors for energy gases such as biogas and methane, as well as for other gas mixtures where the technology requirements are higher than for a standard air compressor. The vane compressor's greatest strengths are its very high reliability and efficiency. Reliability can be attributed to the compressor's lubrication system and the construction's minimal moving parts. The low speed, 1480 rpm, and the absence of axial forces also contribute to high reliability. It is not uncommon for the first service on the compressor stage to be needed only after 100,000 hours of operation. 

Wittig gas compressors deliver gas or air completely without pulsations. The residual oil quantity is as low as 0.003 mg/m3. The gas temperature after the compressor is 80 degrees Celsius. Since the compressor is completely gas-tight, it is well-suited for compressing explosive and toxic gases. 

Unlike piston compressors and screw compressors, the capacity of Wittig compressors does not decrease with the number of operating hours but remains constant throughout their entire lifespan. 

Applications where Wittig gas compressors are often the preferred choice include the compression of biogas, biomethane CH4, hydrogen H2, and carbon dioxide CO2. The compressors are also suitable for VOC gases, natural gas, and BOG boil-off gas. Coke gas and blast furnace gas in steel production are well-suited for Wittig compressors as they can handle dirty gases. Landfill gas is another dirty application where Wittig vane compressors fit very well. 

 Wittig compressors have a capacity of up to 6000 m3/h and can deliver a pressure of up to 15 barg. They are also available as vacuum pumps with a capacity of up to 4500 m3/h. 

The compressors are approved for use in Zone 1 and are marked with ATEX Category 2, both internally and externally, and explosion group IIC.
