Schmidt-Bretten SIGMATWIN is relevant for plants where heat transfer has a direct effect on product quality, energy use and process continuity. It is selected for processes where cross-contamination between product and service media must be avoided. For engineers and maintenance teams, the main value is a configurable exchanger concept that can be matched to heat duty, media properties, pressure drop and cleaning strategy without oversizing the installation.
SIGMATWIN uses two plates placed together as a safety plate instead of one single plate. If plate damage occurs, leakage is directed into the gap between the plates and outwards, helping prevent media mixing. Schmidt-Bretten plate technology uses corrugated plate geometry to generate turbulence and support effective distribution across the heat-transfer surface. Depending on the variant, the exchanger can be configured with suitable plate material, gasket concept, connection type and frame arrangement so the thermal solution fits the actual process rather than a generic duty point.
Key technical parameters include double-wall SIGMA plates, laser-welded plate pairs and leakage path to the outside in case of plate damage. Across the SIGMA family, available materials include stainless steels and special alloys, while gasket options include standard elastomers and PTFE-coated or application-specific variants where appropriate. These datapoints should be checked against the final media, temperature profile, pressure level and service requirements before selection.
From a lifecycle perspective, the value of Schmidt-Bretten SIGMATWIN is not only thermal efficiency but also access, maintainability and adaptability. Correctly selected plate geometry can reduce fouling risk, pressure loss or contamination risk, depending on the process. AxFlow can support product selection, spare-parts planning, service questions and availability so the exchanger remains aligned with process continuity and total cost of ownership.
