March May SDM magnetic-drive centrifugal pumps are intended for chemical transfer, recirculation and other light-duty process applications where a conventional shaft seal could introduce an unwanted leakage or maintenance point. The range is suited to acids, solvents, alkalis, refrigerants and other aggressive liquids, and is used in chemical processing, pharmaceutical production, food processing and laboratory systems. AxFlow can support pump selection against the required flow, head, liquid properties, temperature and installation conditions.

The SDM uses a single-stage centrifugal hydraulic design with magnetic torque transmission, so the motor shaft does not pass through the containment boundary. This removes the dynamic mechanical shaft seal from the pump design and supports leak-resistant handling of demanding process liquids. The pump is built in 316 stainless steel, with threaded or flanged connection options, while the magnetic coupling is selected to maintain reliable torque transfer across the operating range.

The current SDM range is published for flows up to 30 m³/h, heads up to 30 m, system pressure up to 16 bar and liquid temperatures up to 200 °C. March May also offers ATEX Category II configurations on request for suitable hazardous-area duties. Final material compatibility, allowable operating point, motor specification and hazardous-area requirements must always be checked for the selected model and liquid before order.

For maintenance teams, the sealless magnetic-drive arrangement removes a common wear and leakage component and can reduce routine intervention compared with mechanically sealed pumps in suitable services. Correct operation still depends on maintaining adequate liquid supply, avoiding unsuitable dry running and selecting bearings, O-rings and wetted materials for the actual chemical duty. The SDM transfers torque magnetically, so there is no dynamic mechanical shaft seal through the containment boundary.
