Bulk storage terminals, refineries and tank farms need reliable level data for inventory control, transfer accounting and safe operation. Motherwell MTG 8900d is a digital FMCW radar gauge constructed for high-accuracy storage-tank measurement, including custody-transfer duties where repeatability, traceability and stable performance are critical. Its non-contact measuring principle also reduces the number of moving parts exposed to the stored product.
The gauge transmits a frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar signal and evaluates the difference between the transmitted and reflected frequencies to determine the distance to the liquid surface. Dual FFT processing and peak tracking help identify the correct echo in demanding tank geometries, while antenna options support fixed-roof and still-pipe installations. The platform can also accept temperature, water-level and density inputs and can be integrated with Motherwell Diamond tank-gauging systems or other host systems.
Current Motherwell data states level accuracy of ±0.5 mm, an integrated temperature-probe interface with ±0.1 °C accuracy and a gas-tight process connection rated to 40 bar. The 8900d is certified to OIML R85 for tank gauging and is intended for custody-transfer applications. Exact antenna, process connection, hazardous-area configuration and communications should be selected against the tank design, product properties and site standards.
For operators, the practical value is consistent measurement with limited mechanical wear, simplified diagnostics and a platform that can combine several tank variables within one gauging architecture. This can reduce manual intervention, support inventory reconciliation and improve maintenance planning across a tank farm. AxFlow can support specification of the correct Motherwell MTG 8900d configuration, integration requirements, service and spare-parts planning.
