AxFlow Oceania acquires Dowdens Group

AxFlow Oceania, part of the AxFlow Group, has partnered with management and acquired a majority stake in Dowdens Group, a leading provider of fluid handling solutions based in Queensland, Australia. The current owners will remain as shareholders, ensuring continuity and a strong foundation for future development. This represents AxFlow’s largest investment in Oceania to date and solidifies its position in the Australian market.

Dowdens, founded in 1973, delivers fluid handling systems, products and services across key industries including mining, agriculture, food and beverage, and water and wastewater. The business operates through Dowden Pumping and Water Treatment and Emerald Air Starters and Equipment (EASE).

The company employs approximately 180 people across five locations in Queensland—Brisbane, Rockhampton, Mackay, Proserpine and Emerald—and is led by the second generation of the Dowden family.

People, expertise and capability at the core

A key strength of Dowdens is its highly skilled and experienced workforce, with deep application knowledge and long-standing customer relationships. Combined with its strong capabilities in systems and project delivery, and a well-established service organisation, Dowdens brings a compelling, value-driven offering that aligns closely with AxFlow’s strategy of creating value through technical competence and application knowledge.

This partnership is built on a shared ambition to support and further develop that expertise—strengthening both technical capability and service delivery—while providing a solid platform for continued growth.

“Dowdens is a great business, but what really stands out is the people. They’ve got deep technical know-how, strong customer relationships, and a real ability to get complex jobs done,” said Michael Briggs, Managing Director, AxFlow Oceania. “Our focus is to back that team—give them access to more products, more support and more opportunities—so they can keep growing the business and doing what they already do well.”

Opportunities for growth and development

The combination creates opportunities to further develop the business, including:
·     Increased service capacity and lifecycle support
·     Expanded systems and project capabilities
·     Operational improvements through shared expertise and resources

Service and project activities account for more than half of Dowdens’ turnover, providing a strong platform for continued growth in service-led solutions.

“Joining AxFlow enables us to build on our strong foundation and further develop our offering,” said Steven Dowden, General Manager, Dowdens Group. “We will continue to operate as Dowdens, with the same team and customer focus, while benefiting from access to a broader product expertise and the long-term stability.”

Continuity and local focus

Dowdens will maintain its strong local presence across Queensland while leveraging AxFlow’s international network. Queensland remains a key region for fluid handling, driven by demand across mining, water infrastructure and agriculture. The transaction provides a strong platform for further growth in Australia.
