PLEUGER PMM is intended for deep-well, borehole and submerged pumping duties where long operating hours make motor efficiency a significant part of lifecycle cost. The concept is relevant to drinking-water supply, water treatment, irrigation, industrial water systems and other services where a submersible pump must deliver reliable hydraulic performance while reducing electrical losses in the motor.
The PMM is a rewindable synchronous permanent-magnet motor based on PLEUGER's proven submersible motor architecture and operated through a variable frequency drive. Permanent magnets remove rotor copper losses associated with conventional squirrel-cage induction motors, while the water-filled motor construction provides cooling and pressure compensation in submerged service. PLEUGER supplies the pump, PMM motor and VFD as an integrated system so hydraulic and electrical operating points can be matched.
AxFlow currently lists PLEUGER PMM motors from 4 to 200 kW with efficiencies up to 95%; current PLEUGER literature lists 6- and 8-inch PMM designs and 200 kW availability for selected configurations. PLEUGER states that permanent-magnet technology can improve motor efficiency by up to 14 percentage points compared with asynchronous motors, depending on the operating point and motor comparison. Exact pump flow, head, voltage, VFD setup and motor rating must be verified for the selected installation.
Higher motor efficiency can reduce electrical consumption and winding temperature in long-running pumping systems, while the rewindable motor concept supports repair rather than automatic motor replacement. VFD control also allows operation to be matched more closely to changing system demand, which can reduce unnecessary energy use and mechanical stress. AxFlow can support hydraulic selection, PMM/VFD sizing, lifecycle evaluation, commissioning support and spare-parts or service planning for PLEUGER PMM systems.
