Vaughan Rotamix System

The Rotamix system uses fixed nozzle assemblies. Once the nozzle assembly is installed, the nozzles are adjusted to the factory specified angle, and permanently tightened. No additional adjustment is required.

Product features

  • Patented chopping design eliminates nozzle clogging
  • Wear parts heat treated to 60+ Rockwell C Hardness extends pump life
  • Oversized shafting and bearings extends pump life
  • Heavy duty "flushless" mechanical seal (other seal designs available) assures leak-free operation
  • Back pull-out design allows adjustment of all cutting clearances without disconnecting suction or discharge piping

Product description

The Vaughan Rotamix System is specified for demanding sludge-handling and digesting duties where complete mixing, reliable solids suspension, and low operating burden matter. Its core value is straightforward: move process contents uniformly, reduce settling, and do it with a package that keeps the tank free of internal rotating hardware. In wastewater, industrial, and dairy/agriculture service, that operating profile supports steadier process conditions and fewer intervention events.

The system pairs fixed nozzle assemblies with Vaughan’s chopper pump to create multi-zone mixing with both rotational flow and a vertical-axis vortex. High-velocity nozzles increase induced flow, extend the effective mixing volume, and help maintain steady velocities across the tank. The chopper pump further conditions the solids stream so the nozzles stay open and the mixing pattern remains effective under heavy-duty service.

Construction is built around abrasion-resistant components, including ductile cast iron fittings, glass-lined surfaces, and tapered nozzle barrels specified for long-term wear protection. The assemblies are permanently set at the factory angle, then protected with fusion-bonded epoxy coating for surface durability. That combination gives the Rotamix platform a practical supply and maintenance story: install, verify, and keep the process moving with minimal internal tank access.

For operators focused on energy and lifecycle cost, Rotamix can be paired with a VFD and Vaughan’s Reduced Energy Advantage strategy to lower power demand while preserving mixing performance. Vaughan also supports the system with CFD analysis, including vector, velocity, and streamline validation for tank geometry and flow behavior. The result is a mixing package that is constructed, specified, tested, and verified for real process conditions rather than general-purpose circulation alone.

Rotamix is used for sludge tanks, digesters, sludge blending tanks, equalization tanks, industrial waste streams, and dairy/agriculture applications where uniform mixing and solids suspension are required. It is positioned as a cost-effective mechanical hydraulic mixing system for large process vessels.
Rotamix combines uniform rotation and a vertical-axis vortex to create multi-zone mixing. High-velocity nozzles expand the effective mixing volume by inducing entrained flow, which helps move contents throughout the tank instead of only near the discharge point.
The nozzle assemblies use ductile cast iron fittings with glass-lined surfaces for abrasion resistance and reduced friction, plus tapered nozzle barrels specified for long-term wear protection. They are also protected with fusion-bonded epoxy coating and supplied with a 10-year full warranty.
The chopper pump continuously reduces solids size to help prevent nozzle clogging, while the absence of moving parts inside the tank lowers in-tank mechanical exposure. Together, those features reduce common maintenance risks associated with heavy sludge mixing duties.
The nozzle assemblies are installed at the factory-specified angle and permanently tightened, so the system does not depend on repeated field adjustment. Vaughan also uses back pull-out pump construction, which supports easier service access without disconnecting suction or discharge piping.
