Ammonia

Ammonia is widely used as a refrigerant gas and has a low specific gravity and viscosity which can present particular problems for un-specialised pumps.

pumping ammonia

Ammonia is also used as a refrigerant gas, for purification of water supplies, and in the manufacture of plastics, explosives, textiles, pesticides, dyes and other chemicals. It is found in many Irish households and industrial-strength cleaning solutions.

There are many challenges when pumping ammonia such as low NPSHa, fluid slippage, poor lubrication in the pump chamber and boiling. In addition to which any slight problem with the pump's mechanical seal will result in off gassing.

At AxFlow we have a range of different pumps available across the country, specially selected and suitable for pumping ammonia. These products are centred around magnetic drive and canned pump technologies as we believe these are the best for ammonia pumping applications.
