API 610 Certificate

API 610 categorizes centrifugal pumps into three groups: OH, BB, and VS. 

  • OH – Overhung pumps: In these pumps, the impellers extend beyond a radial bearing. The support system must handle all forces, encompassing the overhung mass, as well as rotor dynamic and hydraulic forces. 
  • BB – Between bearing pumps: These pumps have their impellers suspended between two supports, with the impeller placed horizontally, aligning with the bearings. 
  • VS – Vertically suspended pumps: Casing and impellers of these pumps are submerged in the pumped fluid, suspended on a vertical column under a support plate atop the tank, where the motor and thrust bearing are mounted. 

These three API 610 pump types find application across various scenarios: 

  • OH – Overhung pumps: Produced Water; Feed Pump; Booster Pump; Hydrocarbon Transfer; Condensate. 
  • BB – Between bearing pumps: Cooling Water; Boiler Feed; Well Injection; Feed Water; Crude Transfer 
  • VS – Vertically suspended pumps: Open Drain; Closed Drain; Crude Oil Transfer; Firewater; Seawater Lift"
