Thermal growth, equipment movement, vibration and pressure pulsation can introduce stress into piping and connected equipment. MACOGA rubber expansion joints provide a flexible connection that can absorb axial, lateral and angular movement while also reducing vibration and sound transmission. This makes them relevant around pumps, HVAC equipment, cooling systems, water treatment, chemical plants, power generation, marine systems and other services where movement isolation is important.
The joint body is formed from natural or synthetic elastomers with fabric reinforcement and, where required, metallic reinforcing elements. MACOGA offers materials including EPDM, high-temperature EPDM, nitrile, FKM/Viton, SBR, chloroprene and other compounds, so chemical compatibility and temperature capability can be matched to the process. Standard moulded MAC-W/MAC-WT joints use floating flanges, while full-face rubber-flange designs and custom-made configurations extend the available connection and dimensional options.
For standard moulded MAC-W/MAC-WT designs, MACOGA publishes sizes from DN32 to DN600, with working pressure up to 16 bar for many sizes and 10 bar for the larger standard sizes. Custom-made rubber expansion joints can be produced in substantially larger diameters, with full-face designs published up to DN6000. Flanges can be drilled to EN, ANSI and other standards, and vacuum service can be addressed with an internal stainless-steel vacuum ring when required.
Rubber construction offers low spring rates, compact face-to-face dimensions and useful vibration isolation, which can help reduce mechanical loads transmitted to pumps, pipework and supports. Service life still depends on correct material selection, pressure, temperature, movement, alignment and installation, and MACOGA recommends regular inspection of the rubber body and bolted joints.
