APV HT+/VT+ Series

APV VT+/HT+ Series is a range of scraped-surface heat exchangers for efficient heating and cooling of medium- to high-viscosity products, including products containing particles. Available in vertical VT+ and horizontal HT+ configurations, the series continuously scrapes the heat-transfer surface to maintain performance under difficult conditions where other exchanger technologies may lose efficiency. The VT+/HT+ Series is an OEM APV offering for sanitary food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical and industrial processing.

Key specifications

  • Pressure Up To 25 bar

Product features

  • High-viscosity product handling: The VT+/HT+ Series is specified for medium- and high-viscosity products, including particulate, thixotropic and heat-sensitive products that present challenges for conventional heat exchangers.
  • Continuous heat-transfer performance: Mechanical scraping limits product accumulation on the heat-transfer wall, supporting efficient heating or cooling over extended operating periods.
  • Vertical or horizontal configuration: VT+ provides a space-efficient vertical arrangement with a rotatable cylinder for maintenance, while HT+ uses a rigid horizontal stainless-steel frame.
  • Scalable processing capacity: Each unit consists of one cylinder, while multiple cylinders can be installed on a common frame; capacity reaches approximately 10,000 l/h depending on product, temperature, process requirements and cylinder count.
  • Pressure capability: The series is specified for maximum differential pressures up to 25 bar, supporting demanding thermal process conditions.
  • Multiple shaft configurations: Shaft diameters of 76, 115 and 140 mm allow the exchanger configuration to be matched more closely to product and processing requirements.
  • Sanitary process capability: The series supports fast and effective CIP/SIP cleaning, with AxFlow listing 3-A, CE, EHEDG and ISO 9001 certifications.
  • Reduced lifecycle disruption: Accessible construction, configurable cylinder arrangements and service-oriented vertical and horizontal layouts support maintenance while helping preserve production availability.

Product description

APV VT+/HT+ Series scraped-surface heat exchangers are specified for thermal processes involving products that are difficult to handle with conventional exchanger technologies. Typical duties include heating, cooling, crystallization, pasteurization and sterilization. Products can be medium to highly viscous, contain particles, exhibit thixotropic behaviour or be sensitive to heat exposure. Applications include soups, spreads, sauces, creams, soft cheeses, chocolate, fruit and vegetable purées, baby foods, fats and oils.

The series maintains heat transfer by continuously removing product from the heat-transfer surface. This is operationally important when viscous or fouling products would otherwise form a layer that increases thermal resistance and progressively reduces exchanger efficiency. APV positions the platform for harsh conditions where alternative exchanger technologies may fail or become less efficient over extended operating periods. The resulting configuration supports sustained thermal processing while also addressing availability, cleaning and product-quality requirements.

Each VT+/HT+ unit is constructed around a single cylinder, with multiple cylinders installable on a frame when additional processing capacity is required. Shaft diameters of 76, 115 or 140 mm are specified, while the standard unit is supported by stainless-steel frames. The HT+ configuration provides a rigid horizontal platform that can be extended to as many as six cylinders, while VT+ uses a vertical arrangement with a rotatable cylinder to improve maintenance access and minimize floor-space requirements. The series supports differential pressures up to 25 bar.

Capacity can reach approximately 10,000 l/h, but actual throughput depends on the product, temperature, specific process requirements and number of installed cylinders. Selection should therefore be verified against product viscosity, particle characteristics, thermal duty, pressure, required capacity and installation constraints rather than nominal series capability alone. Horizontal and vertical configurations provide flexibility when matching equipment to existing plant layouts. Maintenance accessibility and CIP/SIP capability further support lifecycle performance in sanitary production environments.

APV VT+/HT+ Series is used for heating, cooling, crystallization, pasteurization and sterilization of medium- to high-viscosity products, including products with particles. Typical media include soups, sauces, spreads, creams, soft cheeses, chocolate, fruit and vegetable preparations, baby foods, fats and oils. Industries include food and beverage, meat processing, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, personal care and chemical processing.
The AxFlow source specifies stainless steel for the standard supporting frames but does not provide a complete verified material specification for all product-contact components, scraper blades and seals. These materials should therefore be confirmed for the exact VT+ or HT+ configuration and the processed medium rather than inferred from other APV scraped-surface exchanger series.
The scraped-surface operating principle continually clears product from the heat-transfer wall. This is particularly valuable with viscous, sticky or otherwise difficult products because accumulated material can increase thermal resistance and reduce exchanger efficiency. Continuous scraping helps maintain heat-transfer performance and supports longer effective operating periods under demanding process conditions.
Selection should account for product viscosity, particles, temperature sensitivity, required capacity, thermal duty, differential pressure and available installation space. VT+ provides a vertical, low-footprint arrangement, while HT+ uses a horizontal frame that can be extended to six cylinders. AxFlow states that capacity can reach approximately 10,000 l/h depending on product, temperature, specific requirements and the number of cylinders.
Maintenance and replacement planning should verify the installed orientation, cylinder configuration, shaft diameter, process duty and actual equipment specification. The VT+ rotatable-cylinder arrangement provides maintenance access, while the HT+ platform provides an accessible horizontal configuration. Both are specified for effective CIP/SIP cleaning, helping reduce production disruption and support sanitary operation over the equipment lifecycle.
