APV HT 680

APV HT 680 is a series of scraped surface heat exchangers for heating, cooling, crystallization, pasteurization and sterilization of low- to medium-viscosity products, including fluids containing particles. Continuous scraping limits product build-up on the heat-transfer surface, supporting efficient thermal transfer under process conditions where conventional exchanger technologies can lose efficiency. Available in horizontal HT and space-efficient vertical VT configurations, the series is an OEM APV offering for hygienic and demanding process applications.

Product features

Product description

APV HT 680 scraped surface heat exchangers are specified for thermal processes where fouling, viscosity, particles or changing product characteristics can reduce the effectiveness of conventional heat exchanger technology. Applications include dairy products, sauces, mayonnaise, soups, fruit preparations, confectionery products, cosmetics and other hygienic processes. Continuous scraper action removes product from the heat-transfer wall and promotes uniform thermal transfer. This makes the series suitable for processes requiring controlled heating or cooling while limiting surface accumulation.

The series can be configured horizontally as HT or vertically as VT according to plant layout and servicing requirements. HT construction uses a rigid stainless-steel frame and can be extended to as many as six cylinders, supporting modular production capacity. The VT arrangement requires less installation space and incorporates a manual pivot-point mechanism for repositioning the cylinder between operating and service positions. Three cylinder lengths—520, 540 and 580—provide heat-transfer areas of 0.2, 0.4 and 0.8 m² per cylinder respectively.

Standard product-wetted parts are constructed from AISI 316L stainless steel and are rated for product pressures up to 20 bar. Duplex SAF 2205 construction increases the available product pressure rating to 25 bar and provides an option for acidic or abrasive products. Product operating temperature is specified from -10°C to +150°C, while heating or cooling media can operate from -20°C to +170°C. Self-loading hinged PEEK scraper blades are standard with the 97 mm rotor, while floating PEEK/PTFE blades and alternative rotor diameters provide further process-specific configuration.

Equipment specification can therefore be matched to product rheology, particle size, pressure drop, heat-transfer requirement and available installation space. The 72 mm rotor provides greater annular clearance for larger particles and lower pressure drop, while the 112 mm option can enhance heat transfer and reduce product holding volume and heat exposure. Single seals can be upgraded to flushable double mechanical seals, and options such as a heatable rotor and clip-on insulation provide additional process flexibility. These configurable elements allow an existing installation or new system to be specified around both current production requirements and anticipated process changes.

APV HT 680 units are specified for heating, cooling, crystallization, pasteurization and sterilization. Typical applications include cream cheese, yogurt, milk concentrates, baby food, custards, chocolate products, margarine, jams, fruit pulps, vegetable purées, ketchup, mayonnaise, dressings, soups, sauces and cosmetic creams or gels.
Standard product-wetted components are specified in 1.4404/AISI 316L stainless steel, while duplex 1.4462/SAF 2205 is available for acidic, abrasive and higher-pressure applications. Scraper options include PEEK hinged blades and PEEK/PTFE floating blades, while standard mechanical seals use SiC/SiC sealing surfaces with EPDM gaskets; FPM/FKM is also available.
Scraper blades continuously remove product from the internal heat-transfer surface as the rotor turns. This mechanical action limits product accumulation, promotes more uniform temperature distribution and maintains heat transfer where static surfaces may progressively lose efficiency. Rotor and blade configuration can also be specified around viscosity, particles and the required thermal duty.
Selection should be verified against product viscosity, particle size, flow, operating pressure, temperature, required heat-transfer area and available installation space. APV provides three exchanger lengths and multiple rotor diameters, together with horizontal and vertical configurations. The available options allow clearance, holding volume, pressure drop and heat-transfer characteristics to be matched more closely to the process.
Maintenance planning should consider scraper blade condition, rotor configuration, mechanical seals and product-contact surfaces. The cartridge-style sealing arrangement is constructed for quick servicing, while double mechanical seals can be specified for aseptic, abrasive or solidifying products. When replacing an existing unit, the cylinder length, orientation, rotor diameter, blade type, materials, seals and actual thermal duty should all be verified before supply.
