Product features
- Reliable self-priming: A built-in eccentric air screw forms the liquid ring required for self-priming, supporting CIP return and aerated-fluid duties.
- Higher operating efficiency: Improved internal fluid flow makes the Ws+ 20–90% more efficient than other liquid-ring pumps, reducing energy demand in suitable applications.
- Lower noise: The hydraulic configuration provides significantly lower noise levels than traditional liquid-ring pump technology.
- Duty-specific performance: The open impeller can be trimmed to match the required duty, allowing pump performance to be optimized for the process.
- Hygienic construction: Primary wetted components are specified in SS 316L, with FDA-compliant EPDM elastomers as standard and optional FDA-compliant FPM.
- Verified hygienic suitability: Ws+ pumps are EHEDG approved, with optional 3-A approval, and meet EC No 1935/2004 requirements for materials intended to contact food.
- W+ parts interchangeability: Common parts with the W+ platform help reduce spare-parts inventory and simplify lifecycle support.
- Flexible installation: Standard threads and clamps according to DS, BS, DIN, SMS and ISO, plus DIN flanges, support integration into different process piping systems.
The Ws+ Series (IEC) is specified for applications where a conventional centrifugal pump may struggle with air, foam or intermittent liquid conditions. It is particularly suited to CIP return duties and is also applicable across bakery and confectionery, dairy, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical and industrial processes. Typical media include milk, whey, cream, syrups, emulsions, slurries, detergents and process solutions. The self-priming arrangement allows these duties to be handled while retaining the performance characteristics of a centrifugal pump.
Self-priming capability is produced by an integrated eccentric air screw that establishes the necessary liquid ring. Unlike traditional liquid-ring pumps, the Ws+ uses a high-efficiency impeller that can be trimmed to the specific duty point. This construction improves fluid flow through the pump, supporting efficiency gains of 20–90% compared with other liquid-ring pumps while also reducing operating noise. The conventional open impeller provides a flexible flow range and allows performance to be optimized similarly to a conventional end-suction centrifugal pump.
The casing, front cover, impeller, air screw, recirculation pipe, back plate and shaft are constructed from SS 316L. Standard shaft sealing is Carbon/Silicon Carbide, with Silicon Carbide/Silicon Carbide available as an alternative, while EPDM is the standard FDA-compliant elastomer. The range is specified for maximum operating temperatures up to 95°C; ITT Flow Technologies advises consultation for duties above this temperature. IEC metric motors are specified for 50/60 Hz operation with IP55 protection and insulation class F.
The series comprises three basic pump sizes: Ws+ 20/15, Ws+ 30/30 and Ws+ 44/50. At 50 Hz, series capability extends to 90 m³/h and 6.5 bar, while the manufacturer states values up to 110 m³/h and 9.5 bar with a 60 Hz motor. Individual model limits differ, so replacement or new-pump selection must be verified against flow, head, pressure, product characteristics and installation requirements. Interchangeability with W+ parts can further simplify stocking and maintenance where the wider W+ platform is already installed.
