Waukesha Cherry-Burrell 60R is used as a manually adjustable over-pressure device for pipeline protection. Process pressure acts against the valve-stem plug while a spring holds the valve closed; when the force overcomes the selected spring setting, the valve opens to relieve pressure.
The relief set point is adjusted by changing spring compression with an external lockable cap. The manufacturer instructs users to select a spring range that achieves the required setting without compressing the spring to stack height. For cleaning, the spring load is backed off by turning the cap to unload the valve.
Verified manufacturer data states 316L sanitary construction with No. 4 internal polish, PTFE O-ring or metal seat options and spring ratings of 50 lb (23 kg), 100 lb (45 kg) or 300 lb (136 kg). Available connection sizes are 1.5 or 2 inches, with S-Line, Q-Line, bevel-seat or weld connection options.
Correct spring selection is important because the available setting range depends on spring compression and valve configuration. The simple mechanical concept can reduce control-system complexity, but the relief setting and cleaning procedure must be matched to the actual line limits. AxFlow can support selection, spare-parts planning, service and quotation.
