Viton O rings
Viton is a high performamance elastomer.
Viton is a high-performance elastomer widely used in pump seals, O-rings and wetted sealing components where chemical resistance and temperature performance are critical. Viton is described as a fluoropolymer-based synthetic rubber with strong resistance to solvents, acids and bases, making it a popular material choice for demanding industrial and process duties.
Temperature and performance benefits
The current page gives Viton an operating range of -20°C to 210°C, positioning it as a strong choice for high-temperature pump applications where standard elastomers may be less suitable. Resistance to compression and environmental exposure is highly important, which supports longer-term sealing reliability in difficult duties.
Viton is the best for withstanding chemical resistance, it resists corrosion from a greater variety of fluids and chemicals than any other non-fluorinated elastomer. It’s also extremely resistant to compressions, atmospheric oxidation, sun, weathering, oxygenated automotive fuels, aromatic hydrocarbons, fungus, mould, and more, it’s also more resistant to burning than most other materials.
Why material selection matters in pump design
Choosing the right pump seal material can have a major effect on reliability, maintenance intervals and chemical compatibility.
