Bearing Oil Analysis
Oil testing is part of a regular maintenance routine but when doing a visual inspection of it, how much do you really understand about what you are looking at? It might look ok but without a proper analysis, how can you really be sure that it has no contaminants?
‘Checking the oil’ is a very basic form of condition monitoring and if you know what to look for, the condition of that oil can tell you a lot about the equipment it is lubricating. Oil testing should always be a fundamental part of any regular maintenance or condition monitoring-based programs to provide valuable insight into the condition of the equipment it is lubricating.
Oil analysis (hydraulic or lubricant) performed routinely as part of a condition-based maintenance strategy provides powerful information on the lubricant and therefore machine condition. By trending oil analysis sample results over the life of a machine, trends can be understood which can in turn help to extend the meantime before failure (MTBF) and eliminate costly breakdowns.
